Our names are John and Danielle and we are the Kelley's. The vision came in May of 2007, then we purchased our first rescue, Bullet in June 2007, he was abused and starving. We figured we would begin adopting rescues and then add the kids, but within a month after rescueing Bullet we got our first boy.
We began working together and it was life changing. Within the next two months, two more rescues, Madre and her foal Miracle near starvation and sick with strangles, bought off a slaughter line. We then found an abandoned ranch, that our landlord had purchased mainly for the land. We contacted him about the possibility of renting the ranch from him and he agreed. With the help of many volunteers, we rebuilt the rustic barn, cleared the land of debris and dead trees and put in 35 acres of pasture. We then began to work on the house which was just as bad. Today the ranch and house look great! We still have so far to go, but we are up and running.
We started opening the ranch to kids with physical and emotional challenges and although we have quite a bit of "special needs" kids & autism, we accept ALL kids without those type of challenges as well. What's really cool, is when they come here, they are all just normal kids, making friends despite any challenges and they bond with each other and the horses, no peer pressure. Some of our kids have matured so much you don't recognize if they had a problem. One of our special needs teenager, has now stepped up to leader and leads kids with and without challenges. We tell our kids with special needs, that we need them because they are special.
The kids relationship with the horses are so endearing. They know these horses have been abused or neglected and they minister to the horses to gain their trust and love, in the meantime they are getting healed as well. Horse Therapy is magical. We love every child that comes here, they immediately become part of the family and we love every horse as well, we are working out their issues too, the changes are amazing!
Pretty much we stay at the ranch working with the kids and horses and people have found us out here in the middle of nowhere. Reporters have interviewed us and have written articles on the ranch. Volunteers have found us. Businesses are reaching out and supporting us and sending voluteers out. Opportunities are being presented to us to generate sponsorship, up to this point, it's been just plain hard manual labor, and paying out of our own pockets, but the rewards are so, so great. It takes a lot of prayer, finances and volunteers to run this ranch.
We have many needs if anyone is interested in helping. Some of those needs are: Sponsorship & Donations, a tractor, building materials for the shelters, fencing, tack especially saddles (we only have two saddles), a truck, golf cart or ranger, tools, volunteers, feed,...the list goes on.
If you desire to help out with any of these things go to our contact page, it tells our address and where donations can be mailed. We will be setting up a PayPal for the ranch and credit cards will be accepted in the near future. We will also take your prayers, those are powerful! It is amazing to witness the healing power of Christ centered equine therapy. Everyone should experience it at least once in their lifetime.
Blessings,
Danielle
